About Us

My name is Sarah, and I started pet sitting in 2005 as a part time job. I have always loved animals, but I truly expected this effort to merely help pay the bills while I finished the last few months at Paul Mitchell School, and got state certified and licensed as a Cosmetologist.  I am now licensed, but have yet to work a single day in a salon.  Opportunities were plentiful, but it meant giving up “my” dogs to get a “real” job.

Finally, I decided to follow my heart and pursue professional pet sitting as a career.  I formed Happy Tails Pet Care in San Diego, bought my doggie van, and proceeded to solicit dog play group business.  The business part started to creep into my days, and I got insured, licensed, further training, etc.  Soon, I was booked solid, and I began to add a small amount of boarding, home sitting, walks, etc.

Still being a one person operation, it became clear that I needed and wanted to expand further.  A unique opportunity presented itself in the summer of 2009, when friends that operated a pet daycare business told me they needed to move away to help their family in Michigan.  Their main concern was to leave their clients in good hands when they left.  So we merged SportyPup Pet Services with Happy Tails Pet Care here in San Diego and there is a new branch of SportyPup in Michigan.

I now have three associates to help me take care of your pets; Barbara, Caroline, and Jodi.  Together, we offer a complete menu of services to help you take care of your pet needs.  AND, I can put some serious, hard earned skills to good use…………….washing your dog or cat. When a friend admires your pet’s shiny coat, you can say you have a state licensed, Paul Mitchell trained, Cosmetologist to do their hair.  But sorry, I don’t do humans. :)
